Looking back, I see that 2022 has been filled with a lot of unexpected challenges, as well as a bunch of half-finished and half-started projects.
Currently, I’ve been messing around with more (over-engineered) hardware projects, as well as trying different editors/IDEs for software development.
Stay tuned!

I built a Corne

For some time, I’ve had my eye on the Corne keyboard. It looked very interesting for many reasons.
It is a split keyboard. It has staggered keys. This means that each keycap is aligned vertically. It has a customizable firmware. It has LEDs. It has LCD screens. This would also be an opportunity to build a keyboard.
Hardware To make things easy, I bought Corne 3.0.1 kit from Little Keyboards. It came with everything but LCD modules, switches, keycaps, a TRRS cable, and case.

Should the Air Conditioner be on?

While it’s neat to be able to turn the air conditioner on ahead of time to cool down the room, it would be better if I can get a reading of the temperature in the room. The RPiZ from the Raspberry Pi Zero remote for my air conditioner has plenty of GPIO ports left over, so this is a quick hack to install a temperature diode.
Hardware The circuit board Temperature circuit IR blaster circuit from the previous post 10KΩ resistor - diode for the temperature diode.

This is essentially a reboot of a project I did many years ago.
I have a window air conditioner unit, with a remote control. This remote allows you to control the unit within line of sight. Neat, but still inconvenient when you need to go into the bedroom to pre-cool the room with the AC before going to bed.
My AC unit does not have fancy features like integration with Alexa/Google/etc.

Wyze mount for the laptop

One of the things my neat XPS 13 9370 doesn’t do well is the webcam placement. This laptop has the daring move of putting the camera on the bottom of the screen, pointing up and capturing unflattering unique(read: unflattering) angles of the user. It also doesn’t help that the angle makes it harder to adjust.
It also doesn’t help that this may weeks into the lockdown, prices of USB webcams have gone up and supply of them have gone down.

New Blog Platform

After many years of using WordPress, I decided to switch to a new blog platform.
Before WordPress, I built a website from scratch using a LAMP stack, and event built an administrative portal to manage posts. As fun and intuitive it was to learn and implement features and functionalities in blogs, I ended up spending a lot of time fixing and maintaining the site and less time on projects and new features.
