Pebble, find my phone!

Okay, 2 separate, but related, things.

 To find the Pebble watch:

One day, I could not find my Pebble Smartwatch,  Luckily, by using my phone and the Pebble app, I was able to find the watch.  Really quickly, I found that many bluetooth accessories usually comes with an app that will either scan for nearby devices – so if you can retrace your steps, you can scan to see if the device is within bluetooth range and narrow your search that way.

Once you get the Pebble connected icon(bottom of the above image, go to Sample Notifications.  Any selection in there will cause the Pebble to vibrate, and hopefully the noise/vibrations will be enough to help find your watch!

However, what if you have your Pebble, but you have misplaced your phone?  And am in a place where you can’t have someone call your number(or it’s on silent, non-vibrating mode)?

Prevent this from happening in the future with the following combination:

  1. Glance app for Pebble
  2. Tasker
  3. Pebble
  4. Android phone

The gist is this – glance provides Tasker integration to Pebble, and with it, you can have the Pebble watch trigger tasker to play a sound.

  1. Define Tasker profile to populate button
    1. Create a new Profile in Tasker, Event->System->Intent Received
      1. Action Type : uk.co.finebyte.pebbleglance.TASKERINIT
    2. Create a new Task for the Profile in 1.A.
      1. uk.co.finebyte.pebbleglance.TASKERSEND
      2. Extra : msg:Find My Phone!
  2. Define Tasker profile to trigger action
    1. Create a new Profile in Tasker, Event->System->Intent Received
      1. Action Type: uk.co.finebyte.pebbleglance.TASKERKEY
    2. Create a new Task for the profile in 2.A
      1. Audio->Silent Mode
        1. Mode : OFF
        2. If %SILENT ~ On
      2. Media->Music Play
        1. File : <select audio file on phone>
        2. If %key ~ TASKERTOP

2.B.i brings the phone out of silent mode if it is, since we want to trigger an audio response

To find the phone:

Finding the phone now is a 2 part affair.

  1. In the Glance app, the way the Tasker tab works is that when it was brought up, it queries the phone for the list of tasks(in this case, “Find My Phone!” as definied in 1.B.ii).  If the task gets populated, you are within bluetooth range of your phone!
  2. Selecting the task will make your phone come out of silent mode, and play the sound of your choice.  That should aid you in finding your phone!

It may not be super polished, but it does work in a jiffy(read: when I wake up in the morning and I can’t find one or the other!)
