The good folks at element14|newark made the long awaited camera module available for the Raspberry Pi this week. While I was unable to order it in time(the website promptly crashed and stayed offline for the day, and now redirects to a “register your interest” placeholder page), my girlfriend was able to snag one.
This, friends, is highly sought-after accessory for the Raspberry Pi. Raspberry Pi is already aimed at making small, portable, computer starting at $35, this $25 accessory now makes this bundle an affordable observation/security camera project for DIYers.
Personally, the best selling point for Raspberry Pi Camera module comes to the following reasons:
- Price : $25 + (well, you’ll need a Raspberry Pi + SD card + power source)
- Resolution : 5MP(max) 1080p(max)
- Size : about a postage stamp! …+Raspberry Pi, which is a little larger than a credit card + size of battery/power source(size unknown???)
This makes it a prime candidate for experiments and projects – and at the price that I can be brave and experimental with. Hey, when you fund your own projects, money management is important!
At the moment, I do not have any particular project(s) in mind for this, but it does give me ideas!
